CARAVAN

A project made up of artists and artistic mediators that travels across Europe, transforming early childhood spaces into creative oases.

Share

CARAVAN is a small-scale cooperation project funded by the Creative Europe programme that radically places the professional practice of artists within the immediate environment of early childhood (0–5 years).CARAVAN proposes an “artistic caravan” made up of artists and artistic mediators that travels across Europe, transforming early childhood spaces into true creative oases where art and babies coexist in perfect horizontality and freedom.

Through CARAVAN, artists and artistic mediators can develop new strategies for creation and mediation in early childhood environments through residencies. The project adopts a cross-sectoral strategy and an interdisciplinary approach, placing artists and their innovative practices at the heart of socially marginalised and often multicultural communities, working collaboratively with early childhood professionals (social, childcare and educational). This innovative artistic practice enhances socially inclusive capacity-building across the three territories where the partners operate.

Main objectives

1. Develop new artistic strategies for creation and mediation in early childhood environments through artistic residencies.

2. Foster transnational exchange and reflection among partners, artists and artistic mediators.

3. Strengthen social inclusion capacity in the three partner regions, placing artists at the heart of socially marginalised and often multicultural communities.

Methodology

CARAVAN will use an intersectoral strategy and an interdisciplinary approach. Six artists and artistic mediators —two from each country— will take part in five residencies over the course of the project. These residencies will take place alongside the international performing arts festivals organised by the three partners in their respective countries.

Impact and dissemination

The project aims to gather shareable knowledge and build a practical model that can inspire arts organisations, mediators and artists in other European territories. Dissemination will take place during the international performing arts festivals organised by the partners, focusing on cultural wellbeing through artistic and cultural awakening.

CARAVAN represents a significant step towards integrating art into the core of the social, health, cultural, educational and childcare sectors, aligning with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

We are thrilled to embark on this artistic journey and look forward to sharing the results and experiences with our community throughout the project.
